Hard to think summer is upon us after so much rain, but if you’ve lived in Portland for any time you just start describing it as a “warm rain.” Beadhead just finished an outdoor gig (fortunately we were well covered) at The Reserve Golf Club’s “Big Kahuna” party. We’re slated to play The Tillicum on July 23rd but we’ve just heard that The Tillicum has closed. Too bad, it’s a Portland institution–hope somebody revives the place. We might find a substitute venue–stay tuned. Looks like some private events late July/early August and then we’re at Hillsboro’s Tuesday Marketplace on August 24. A fundraiser in White Salmon, WA in late August and then we’re back at Coyotes September 16 & 17. We’re looking to get back to our regular rotation there. The annual Buffett Bash happens in October and we’ll be setting the table for Parrotheads at Bleachers the weekend that Jimmy comes to Portland for a concert. We’ll be busy learning some new songs this summer–including an original throughout the summer. You can check the schedule on www.beadheadrocks.com. Hope to see you soon.

Beadhead has long been a “cover” band.  We play songs you’re familiar with.  Recently some people have asked us about producing some original material.  You get a chance to vote in the latest Beadhead poll. What do you think?[polldaddy poll=3274758]

Tony Benach on drums.

We recently conducted a poll to determine your favorite Beadhead venue and Coyotes ranked at the top.  Beadhead returns Friday and Saturday, May 14 & 15.  While we are transitioning to our new drummer, Jay Lundell, he won’t be able to play that weekend.  We’re fortunate to be joined on drums by original “Oxymorons” drummer, Tony Benach.  The Oxymorons were the precursor band to Beadhead.  Since the Oxymorons, Tony has played with a number of local bands including the Holy Rollers, Article 5 and current band Rock Blocks.  On Saturday, John Mazzocco, former bassist for blues legend, John Lee Hooker, as well as Curtis Salgado joins us.  It looks like an energized weekend.  Anyone who has ever seen John Mazzocco play knows the enthusiasm, energy and bass chops he brings to the band.

New drummer, Jay Lundell, joins Beadhead.

Jay Lundell joins Beadhead at our next gig, Wed., May 5–the Cinco de Mayo party at Cactus Jacks.  Jay has a long list of credentials including being inducted into the Cascade Blues Hall of Fame.  Jay’s musical resume includes experience with blues, R&B, country and rock and roll.  He and Steve played in their first band together as freshmen in high school and have played on and off over the years.  Jay is also sitting in with other Beadhead members, John, Shawn and Steve in the Holy Trinity Saturday night band.  Please come out and welcome him.  You’ll be impressed.  Previous drummer, Bob Hawkins is leaving to pursue other music interests.
